Flowers are in bloom right now. Beautiful little corner worth stopping and relaxing for awhile. There are a few benches to sit at and itโs surrounded by places to eat and shop in Greenwich Village
Beautiful, peaceful spot. Benches are spaced out so you can enjoy some solitude. No food allowed (to keep rodents away). Thank you to the volunteers who make this such a lovely place! (there is a donation box/venmo if youโd like to help support this park)
Title: Greenwich's Green Oasis: Discovering the Magic of Jefferson Market Garden
Review:
Hidden amidst the bustling streets of Greenwich Village lies a verdant oasis that beckons both the weary traveler and the curious local: the Jefferson Market Garden. This hidden gem, with its rich history rooted in the former Jefferson Market Courthouse, is a testament to the power of community activism and the enduring spirit of Manhattan's residents.
From the moment I stepped into the garden, I was transported to a world of tranquility and beauty. The myriad of plants, from the majestic roses to the humble herbs, paints a vibrant tapestry of colors and scents that soothe the senses. With its serene inhabitants, the koi pond adds a touch of whimsy, while the greenhouse is a beacon of sustainable agriculture and education.
One of the highlights of my visit was meeting Theresa, a dedicated garden volunteer keeper. Her passion for the garden was evident as she reminded me of its history and helped me navigate its scenic corners. Her assistance with my camera bag was a kind gesture that epitomized the warm and welcoming nature of the JMG community.
The garden's operating hours, from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offer ample opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in this urban Eden. And while it remains closed on Mondays for maintenance, this only ensures that the garden remains a pristine sanctuary for all who visit.
The reviews of fellow visitors resonate with my sentiments. The garden is a place to admire nature's beauty and a hub for learning and community engagement. Whether you're a gardening enthusiast keen on attending a workshop or seeking a peaceful respite from city life, Jefferson Market Garden promises a memorable experience.
In conclusion, Jefferson Market Garden is more than just a garden; it's a living testament to the power of community, sustainability, and the timeless beauty of nature. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular patron, this garden promises a unique and enriching experience with every visit. It is highly recommended!

Absolutely stunning and a lush haven of beauty in the middle of the city. I will absolutely return for another stroll, whoever maintains these gardens does an excellent job.
Well maintained garden and interesting history!
Beautiful corner of flowers and tranquility. A little crowded on a fine sunny day. Nice for a gentle walk or sitting for a bit to enjoy the garden.
Beautiful little haven of peace and harmony in the midst of a city buried under filth. The garden might be small but... If you turn around every other step something new and totally unseen before appears! It's a garden meant for exploration and discovery. Many benches offer the pleasure of relaxing with a pleasant view.
A nice little garden by the Jefferson Market Library Branch. Pretty good, but very small. There is not a lot to do there.
This beautiful garden in Greenwich Village was a former prison until the seventies. Thanks to the determination of the local inhabitants, it has been turned into this peaceful place appropriate to relaxation and meditation.
